Grevillea pyramidalis (Caustic Tree)

Grevillea pyramidalis, better known as Caustic Tree, is a small tree that grows up to 4m. The leaves are a pale greyish green colour, the bark is dark greyish brown and the flowers are small creamy white/yellow colour. Some Kimberley Aboriginal people are known to obtain yellow paint from chewing and spitting out the bark for ceremonila purposes. When applied to the body this paint would turn white. The resin on the seed pods is very sticky and caustic and can cause severe skin irritation. It is even known to having caused second-degree burns!
The Grevillea pyramidalis can be found in shrubland, vine thickets, in gravelly, sandy or clay soil..
