Wangai or Spear Wattle Acacia tumida

Traditionally known as ‘Wangai’ or ‘spear wattle’ by local Indigenous people, this wattle grows straight and tall and makes great spears especially because it floats in the water. The seed is also ground to make damper. It is flowering at the moment, as seen in this photo taken recently on the Gibb River Rd and the flowers are a a beautiful intense yellow with a long fluffy pipecleaner form.
