These fleshy herbs are generally low-lying ground covers, and some are known as pigweeds and pigfaces. Genera on the Dampier Peninsula include Trianthema and Sesuvium, but others occur elsewhere in the Kimberley.

Several of them live on saline soils, near the coast and around salt lakes. This example is Sesuvium portulacastrum.
