Mimusops elengi (Mamajen)

Mimusops elengi is a medium- sized evergreen tree and is found in closed forest vine thickets behind coastal dunes on the Dampier Peninsula. However, it has not been recorded anywhere south of Barred Creek. The edible fruit of the Mamajen Tree is bright red-orange when ripe and either eaten raw or warmed in hot ashes. Eating too many can cause constipation so watch out! The wood is extremely hard, strong and tough and very rich red in colour.
